Salehi: Iran, P5+1 reached common understanding

Salehi made the remarks during a televised interview late on Sunday night, noting that the West has come to realize that Iran will continue its peaceful activities and will not yield to any pressures exerted on the country to abandon the practices, IRNA reported.

“We are trying to close this false dossier, which has been fabricated for the Islamic Republic of Iran. This would benefit both Iran and the West,” he added.

Salehi went on to say that the Islamic Republic is seriously against the proliferation of nuclear weapons throughout the world.

Iran and the P5+1 group wrapped up two rounds of negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday and agreed to hold the next round of talks in Baghdad on May 23, 2012. Both sides hailed the talks as successful and constructive.

The EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton described the talks as useful and constructive, saying that Iran has the right to have a civilian nuclear energy program.

Tehran and the P5+1 group previously held two rounds of talks, one in Geneva, Switzerland in December 2010 and another in Istanbul in January 2011.
