UK has changed for worse under Queen Elizabeth

30 May 2012 08:02

Islam Times - A recent poll has shown that almost half of the British people believe Britain has changed for the worse during Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years of reign.

As the Queen prepares for celebrations marking her 60 years on the throne, an ITV News/ComRes poll has found that 47 percent of the British people believe Britain has turned into a worse place during the Queen’s reign.

Moreover, the survey showed more than half of the British people said they would not take part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne will be held over an extended weekend from 2 June to 5 June, with the Brand Finance saying only the extra Bank Holiday for the Diamond Jubilee would cost around £1.2 billion.

Anti-monarchy activists in Britain have planned for the biggest anti-monarchy protest “in living memory” on Sunday 3 June, the same day that the Queen’s Jubilee Thames Flotilla, involves one thousand boats, is expected to travel down the Thames in London.

The protesters are to stage their “loud, bold, and provocative” demonstration near City Hall so that they would be in full view of the Queen and her family as they would disembark from the lead boat.

“The hereditary system is offensive to all the democratic values…The jubilee represents a celebration of everything we, as republicans, oppose”, said Graham Smith, the chief executive of the anti-monarchy campaign group Republic.
