The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the 17 Afghans lost their lifes in a Wednesday pre-dawn operation by US-led forces in Baraki Barak district.

Maj. Martyn Crighton, a spokesman with US-led forces, claimed that there were no civilian casualties in the nighttime strike.

Crighton, however, confirmed that two women, who were wounded in the operation, were shifted to a military base for treatment.

Overnight operations by the US-led forces have resulted in civilian casualties and increasing tension between Washington and Kabul.
