Clashes broke out between the armed men and Syrian troops during the late hours of Saturday.

Separately, Syrian security forces said on Sunday that they had arrested 11 foreign spies from different Arab countries in the capital, Damascus.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.

The anti-Syria Western regimes have been calling for President Bashar al-Assad to step down.

Assad told the German ARD television channel on July 5 that the United States is “part of the conflict,” and that “they offer the umbrella and political support to those gangs to… destabilize Syria.”

Meanwhile, UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Kofi Annan arrived in Damascus and he is scheduled to meet with Assad on Monday.
