Pakistan main Islamic political party condemns killing of Muslims in Myanmar

23 Jul 2012 07:52

Islam Times - Chief of Pakistan’s largest politico-religious party, Jaamat-e-Islami (JI), has slammed the ongoing violence in Myanmar against the Muslim community of the country.

In a statement released on Saturday, Syed Munawar Hasan has called on Islamabad to lodge a protest with Naypyidaw over the prosecution and inhuman treatment of Muslim in Myanmar.

He added that Muslims are being forced to “migrate to other countries,” due to the increasing violence directed against them in the south Asian country.

According to recent reports, Muslims in Myanmar are in a tragic human plight. Reports say 650 of the nearly one million Rohingya Muslims have been killed as of June 28 during clashes in the western region of Rakhine. This is while 1,200 others are missing and 90,000 more have been displaced.

The statement noted that the international community has remained silent on the ongoing massacre of Muslims in Myanmar.

He further urged Pakistani government to take the issue to the United Nations to discuss the appalling situation in Myanmar.

The UN has described Rohingya Muslim community as the Palestine of Asia and one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.

They are deprived of basic rights including education and employment and are subject to forced labor, extortion and other coercive measures.

The government of Myanmar refuses to recognize Rohingyas, who it claims are not natives and classifies them as illegal migrants, although they have lived in the country for generations.
