The camp clash in the southeastern Turkish province of Gaziantep broke out on Sunday after a group of 1,500 ethnic Turkmen refugees from Syria were added to the camp despite its poor condition, including food and water shortages.

Four Syrian refugees and four Turkish security forces were hurt in the clashes.

Syrian refugees also lowered the Turkish flag at the camp and replaced it with that of their own nation. Some reports suggest that the refugees also took some Turkish police hostage and seized their guns.

The violence, however, ended after special forces with armored personnel carriers entered the camp and police fired shots into the air.

Turkish citizens quickly took down the Syrian flag and replaced it with the Turkish one.

Meanwhile, Turkish police used tear gas to disperse a group of Syrian refugees angry about food and water shortages who were throwing stones at police in Kilis.

Tensions are high at Syrian refugee camps in Turkey, where refugees are suffering from lack of food and water as temperatures climb to over 40 degrees Celsius.

Thousands of Syrians have fled to neighboring Turkey since the beginning of unrest in their country last year.
