Pakistan PM gets more time from court
The court had earlier ordered the Prime Minister to write a letter to Swiss authorities by July 25 or face the consequences.

In a latest move, the Supreme Court has accepted the government request after it assured the judges of making efforts to resolve the controversy.

Experts believe the court decision for the time being will end political uncertainty surrounding the fate of the new Prime Minister.

The case revolves around almost three year old row between the judiciary and the government over the money laundering cases facing the President.

The charges were withdrawn in 2007 by then military ruler General Pervez Musharraf under a controversial amnesty granted to politicians including President Zardari.

The move was declared as illegal by the Supreme Court. But the ruling Peoples Party government has resisted the court verdict claiming Zardari enjoys immunity from corruption charges.

In June, the court disqualified former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from holding office over his refusal to reopen corruption cases.

Though, the government has promised to resolve its lingering stalemate with the judiciary, very few people in the country expect the ruling Peoples Party to reopen corruption cases against the President. Hence, the political observers believe that the crisis is far from over.
