Islam Times - Lebanese army uncovers new Israeli espionage network

Islam Times - In just one month, and after Hezbollah uncovered an Israeli-planted espionage device in South Lebanon; the Lebanese Army Intelligence uncovered a spy network in the town of Rmeileh south of the capital Beirut. After raiding the residence of three suspects, the army seized a load of arms ranging from Israeli-made mortar shells, remote mine-ignition devices and over a thousand detonators. The load also included U.S-made anti-personnel mines and grenades as well as other equipment.

According to Retired Lebanese Brigadier General, Amin Hoteit, this network is a form of coordinated terrorist intelligence joining two key players: The U.S-synthesized Al-Qaeda and the Israeli Mossad.

The United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon have been victim to the blasts of some three roadside bomb traps in 2011 alone; and despite lack of solid proof some Western countries steadfastly voiced accusations blaming the resistance movement, Hezbollah, of being the perpetrator. Though Former Senior Advisor of UNIFIL, Timur Goksel, said that it is very unlikely.

On a side note, Lebanese President, Suleiman, Lauded the Army intelligence's efforts which managed to bring in two newer members of this network in the last 48 hours as well.

Experts believe that the recent discoveries of spies in Lebanon as well as planted espionage devices have greatly damaged the efforts of those behind them and raised the latter's concerns for their agents in the country. It remains to be seen whether more suspects linked to the recently unveiled ring will turn up in the very near future.
