3 killed in shooting near Texas University

Bryan Police Department spokesman Jon Agnew said the two other victims were a law enforcement officer and a male civilian, adding that two other officers and a woman were also injured in the incident, which took place just blocks away from Texas A&M University on Monday.

Assistant College Station Police Chief Scott McCollum identified the slain officer as Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann. He said the gunman opened fire while he was being served an eviction notice near the university's campus.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and shot the gunman before taking him into custody. The suspect, who was identified as a 35-year-old man, was late pronounced dead.

It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was a student at Texas A&M.

The College Station is about 145 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Houston. According to its website, Texas A&M is home to more than 50,000 students.
