The court extended the detention period until the next hearing in Khawaja’s case on August 28.

Khawaja was among about 40 protesters arrested on August 3 during a peaceful demonstration near the capital, Manama, and lawyers say she faces 13 charges.

Regime forces used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, injuring several of them.

Zainab is the daughter of prominent detained activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who is in prison over charges of ‘plotting to overthrow the monarchy.’

On Tuesday, Bahraini lawyers said the appeals court has postponed its verdict in the case of 13 opposition figures, including Abdulhadi, until September 4.

Bahraini protesters have been holding demonstrations against the ruling Al Khalifa family since February 2011 and they hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of the demonstrators during the uprising.
