15 Aug 2012 12:01

Islam Times - The results of a new poll show that public approval rating of US Congress has dipped to a record low of 10 percent, revealing a growing discontent with an often deadlocked legislative body.

A total of 1,012 adults from across the United States responded to the poll which was conducted by the Gallup organization via phone from August 9-12, 2012.

According to the results, which were made public on August 14, the approval rating of Congress plunged to 10 percent, tying February's reading as the lowest in Gallup's 38-year history of measuring congressional approval.

The new figure is down from 16 percent in July and 17 percent in June.

Gallup further noted that around 83 percent of the Americans have expressed dissatisfaction with the job Congress is doing.

The survey also indicated that the approval rating of the Democrats has fallen to 9 percent while that of the Republicans has fallen to 10 percent.

Gallup cited the country’s continuing economic woes as a major reason for the low approval rating.
