Pakistan beefs up security for Eid al-Fitr celebration

Islam Times - Muslims in Pakistan have celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr -the end of holy month of Ramadan- with traditional religious fervor but Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik's security plan to foil a possible terror bid and suspension of cellular services in four Major cities from Moon-night to the next day has annoyed many here in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Quetta.


Mobile services have been suspended in main urban centers of the country due to possible terror attacks. People here say that Federal government's decision has badly disturbed their greeting schedules On Eidul Fitr.
 
According to a press statement released by Interior Minister on Sunday, the decision was taken in response to a request by provincial governments on the eve of Eidul Fitr. He apologized in advance to public for the inconvenience they would suffer but a worshiper coming out from Eid prayers had this to say.
 
The security has been further beefed up for Eid, outside the mosques and at public places.
 
In Special Eid sermon at all mosques prayer leaders stressed on unity among Muslim Ummah. In the port city of Karachi the largest Eid congregation was held at Memon Masjid where prayers were offered for the stability, well being and prosperity of the country.
