22 Aug 2012 07:20

Islam Times - Turkish security forces have killed six members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey.

The PKK militants were killed in a military operation in the province of Sirnak on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

The operation was conducted in response to the shelling of a police station in Sirnak by PKK militants, in which one police officer was killed and another was injured on Sunday evening.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, the United States, and European Union member states.

Over 40,000 people have lost their lives since the PKK launched its armed campaign against Ankara in 1984.
