Khalil Al-Marzouq: Bahraini regime embarrasses its allies and turns the country into a cemetery

18 Sep 2012 10:23

Islam Times - Political assistant to the Secretary General of the opposition al-Wefaq, Khalil Al Marzouq, said in an address to the press that the authorities had tarnished the image of Bahrain and turned the country into a graveyard, referring to grave human rights violations against peaceful protesters.

Marzouq criticized in his speech taking place at a sit-in organized by al-Wefaq on Monday night in Almaqsha, the regime’s attempt to discredit UN human rights observers, who last week in Geneva condemned al-Khalifa regime for its abuse and violent crackdown on Bahraini people.

The leader of the al-Wefaq stressed that Bahrain’s authorities had embarrassed its allies, proving that it stood for repression and oppression rather democracy and freedom. He further emphasized that only through political and institutional reform would Bahrain be at peace again, as its people would never abandon their rightful fight.

Al-Marzouq called on the international community to take firm positions against Bahrain, pointing out that the dialogue the regime is talking about  is a mere "media deception”.

Marzouq explained that arrests and raids on homes are still common in Bahrain, stressing that it proved the government was not serious when talking about reforms. “This regime wasn’t elected and it doesn’t have a real legitimacy. It came by ways of oppression and we should not as a nation listen to anything it has to say.”

Addressing al-Khalifa regime "If you want to listen to the voice of truth, then, listen to your people" emphasizing that the regime and its institutions do not represent popular legitimacy.
