Iraqi brigadier general, five others killed in attacks

Islam Times - At least six people, including a police brigadier general and two soldiers, have been killed in separate attacks in Iraq, security officials said.


Police Brigadier General Nayef Abdul Razzaq, head of the interior ministry's complaints office, was killed after gunmen opened fire on his car in the al-Yarmuk area of west Baghdad on Sunday, AFP reported.

His driver was also killed in the shooting.

In Sadr City in north of the capital, a magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to a minibus killed two people and wounded six, an interior ministry official said.

Two Iraqi soldiers were also killed after a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in hit their in the northern city of Mosul.

    More than 170 people have been killed and over 670 others have been wounded in attacks across Iraq this month.


On Saturday, at least six people, among them five soldiers, were killed in two bomb attacks.

Bombings and shootings have recently increased across Iraq and many believe that the attacks aim at undermining the central government.

Official figures show that July was the bloodiest month in Iraq in almost two years. The figures put the number of people killed in attacks in July at 325, the highest monthly death toll since August 2010.
