Islam Times - Egyptians hold rallies on anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday’

Islam Times - On the first anniversary of the Maspero clashes, where over two dozens of protesters were killed, several thousands marched from the Shubra neighborhood to the state TV building to commemorate the clashes and to call for the death penalty for those who were involved.

Protesters carried the banners of field Marshall Tantawi and his aide Sami Anan with leashes around their necks, signifying punishment for them by execution.

Protesters have also denounced the Egyptian Judiciary as no one has been charged so far over the killing of the peaceful protesters. The demonstrators asserted that they will continue to voice the rage and unmask the atrocities committed by the former ruling military council during the period of military rule.

Following the ouster of longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak last year, when the military took power, Egypt witnessed numerous acts of state violence, but the Maspero massacre of October 9th was exceptional in its ferocity.

Many here hope that Egypt's first freely elected president Mohammed Morsi will bring justice and retribution to all those who were killed in the hands of military and to achieve the demands and objectives of the January 25 revolution.
