The 28-year-old, Khamis Gaddafi was killed during fighting in Bani Walid, Libyan national congress spokesman, Omar Hamdan said in a statement on Saturday.

According to reports, his body was sent to the country’s Mediterranean city of Misrata.

Gaddafi's son, who was graduated from a Russian military academy, formed a special military unit known as 32nd Brigade to kill ex-regime’s opponents.

On October 20, a battle broke out between pro-government forces and fighters loyal to the former ruler in Bani Walid a stronghold of Gaddafi, where at least 26 people were killed and scores of others injured.

The fighting began when pro-government forces pushed into central Bani Walid to flush out criminals and former regime loyalists holed up in the town, according to Colonel Ali al-Sheikhi, the spokesman of the chief of staff.

Earlier in the day, former regime's spokesman and foreign minister, Moussa Ibrahim was detained in the town of Tarhouna, situated between Tripoli and Bani Walid.

The incidents come on the anniversary of Gaddafi's capture and consequent lynching in his hometown Sirte, the last city to fall to NATO-backed rebels in the 2011 uprising that ousted the old regime.
