Witnesses: Israeli army vehicles breach Gaza border

11 Dec 2012 08:34

Islam Times - Witnesses said Israeli military vehicles crossed the border into the Gaza Strip near Khan Younis on Monday morning.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said forces were carrying out "routine activity" in the area.

Eyewitnesses told Ma'an the vehicles came several hundred meters into Gaza territory and were scanning the area.

Israel's recent 8-day war on Gaza ended with a ceasefire on Nov. 21, which included a pledge to end incursions into Gaza's territory.

Israel has imposed a 500-meter no-go zone on the borders, but as part of the ceasefire agreed to stop targeting Palestinians in the area, Gaza's government said.

When a Palestinian was killed in the zone by Israeli forces a few days after the ceasefire, Hamas security forces deployed in the area to make sure Palestinians don't approach the border fence.
