86% of Americans disapprove of Congress: Poll
The January 7-10 poll conducted by Gallup indicates that Americans continue to rate their elected lawmakers very poorly, with only 14 percent approving their performance.

The opinion poll was conducted nearly a week after the Congress and President Barack Obama agreed on legislation that avoided the end-of-year ‘fiscal cliff’ in part.

The survey was based on telephone interviews with a random sample of 1,011 adults, aged 18 and older, in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia.

The poll also shows that three-quarters of Americans believe the “way politics works in Washington” is detrimental to the United States.

The new 14-percent approval rating for the Congress is on par with the all-time-low 15-percent annual approval rating in 2012.

The lowest congressional job approval rating in Gallup’s history is ten percent for August 2012 and the highest is 84 percent for October 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.
