Leaving the UK makes Scotland wealthier
According to the Government and Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) figures for 2011-12, Scotland’s overall balance of payments was relatively better than the UK's as a whole by some £845 a person in that year.

“Scotland’s referendum in Autumn 2014 is an opportunity to ensure that key economic decisions are taken in Scotland for Scotland, and that we can boost economic growth to invest in the country’s future,” said John Swinney, the Scottish finance secretary.

"[With] responsibility for our own finances and our own vast natural resources, we will be able to make choices in our own best interests. With independence, we would control the fiscal levers we need to suit our own economic circumstances, and maximize Scotland's potential to secure new investment and jobs,” he added.

Moreover, the Scottish National party (SNP) and the Yes Scotland independence campaign said the figures showed once again that leaving the UK would make Scotland a comparatively richer country.
