Obama vows response to US bombings as injured
“I have spoken to FBI Director [Robert] Mueller and Homeland Security Director [Janet] Napolitano and they’re mobilizing appropriate resources to investigate and to respond,” Obama said at a White House press briefing Monday evening.

The remarks came while no suspects were yet arrested or identified, although local press outlets later cited “a federal law enforcement official” as saying that authorities are questioning “a Saudi national who was taken to a Boston hospital with injuries.”

The same official further said that law enforcement authorities were “desperately seeking” a rental truck that was reported to have been leaving the race site.

This is while Boston city officials explained to reporters at a nationally televised press conference that they had no suspects but were “questioning” some people.

While there was no claim of responsibility or a prior warning before the bombings, US officials are reportedly treating the incident as an act of terrorism.

“Any event with multiple explosive devices -- as this appears to be -- is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror,” one federal official was cited as saying in a Los Angeles Times report.

“However, we don't yet know who carried out this attack, and a thorough investigation will have to determine whether it was planned and carried out by a terrorist group, foreign or domestic,” he added.

Furthermore, Obama added during his White House remark: “But make no mistake; we will get to the bottom of this, and we will find out who did this; we'll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice.”

The development comes just days after the Director of US National Intelligence James Clapper, who coordinates the activities of multiple American spy agencies, warned in a congressional testimony last Thursday that while the al-Qaeda threat “and the potential for a massive coordinated attack on the United States may be diminished,” the “jihadist movement” was still active, although unorganized and scattered.

“Lone wolves, domestic extremists and jihad-inspired affiliated groups are still determined to attack Western interests,” Clapper said during a testimony at the House Intelligence Committee hearing.

Meanwhile, latest reports indicate that the twin bombings at the Boston Marathon’s finish line has so far left at least three people dead and 130 more injured.
