Israeli regime laying the groundwork for Syria turmoil: American analyst
“I think it is ultimately the Israelis who are the ones who have been really laying the groundwork for this kind of violence and chaos in Syria,” Dr. Kevin Barrett, American author and political expert said.

Barrett went on to say that the Tel Aviv regime sought to destabilize Syria in an attempt to continue its occupation of the Syrian territory of the Golan Heights.

On May 5, Syria said the Israeli regime had carried out an airstrike targeting a research center in a suburb of the capital, Damascus, following heavy losses of al-Qaeda-affiliated groups inflicted by the Syrian army. According to Syrian media reports, Israeli rockets struck the Jamraya Research Center.

The aggression was the Israeli regime’s second strike on the Arab state in three days. The Jamraya facility had been targeted by another Israeli airstrike in January.

The American expert further said that the only way to end the unrest in Syria was for the Syrian army to continue gaining victories in its fight against the foreign-sponsored militant groups.

“I think the only way out of this situation really is for the Syrian government to continue to make these gains.”

“At some point it hopefully will reach a point where the Syrian government can reach out to the forces in the opposition that are actually Syrian and that are interested in participating in changing things in Syria peacefully and democratically,” Barrett stated.

Many people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed in the turmoil that erupted in the country in March 2011. Damascus has repeatedly called for dialogue to end the violence.
