UK, US to blame for Iraq killings: Iraqi politician
Al Mahmadawi said Iraqi security forces had no role in allowing the detectors in the country as British and American occupiers were in full charge of the security when the devices were sold to Iraq, Mehr News Agency reported Iraqi media as saying.

He added the export of fake detectors to his country is a clear evidence for the occupying countries’ indirect involvement in the killing of Iraqis.

Some £55 million worth of fake bomb detectors were sold to Iraq by British businessman Jim McCormick at a price of up to £19,682 apiece, while it later emerged that they are bogus devices based on £30 golf ball finders.

McCormick has been given 10 years in prison by a British court over the fraud.

Prior to his sentencing the court heard evidence from British army officers that bomb explosion killing civilians in Iraq occurred after truck bombs and other explosives had passed through checkpoints manned by security officers using the fake detectors.

According to AFP, bombings in Iraq have killed more than 200 people in each of the first five months of 2013.
