Separate bomb blasts target two Afghan officials
In the first attack, the chief of Darzaab District in the northern Jowzjan Province was injured in a bomb explosion.

Separately, the deputy governor of the southeastern Zabul Province was targeted in a similar assassination attempt.

Afghan officials say his convoy was hit by a remote-controlled bomb as he was heading to the adjacent Kandahar Province, but the official escaped unhurt.

No person or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, the Taliban militants are usually blamed for similar attacks.

Meanwhile, the Taliban militants, armed with light and heavy weapons, have surrounded Dolena District in the central Ghor Province. Local official say they are planning an attack in the volatile region.

Taliban militants recently announced the start of their annual "spring offensive" against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across Afghanistan.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country despite the presence of thousands of foreign troops.
