UK mosque bomb component made safe

14 Jul 2013 07:44

Islam Times - The British police have carried out a controlled explosion on part of a nail bomb that detonated on Friday near a mosque in Tipto, West Midlands.

The blast that scatted nails and debris around left no one injured but left residents panic-stricken.

The police said on Friday that the device was designed to cause “serious harm” near Kanz Ul Iman Masjid stressing it is being treated as a terrorist incident.

Officers later searched the cordoned-off area for potentially dangerous devices and found a component of the main bomb in a nearby property.

"Following forensic searches, officers have found what appears to be a potential small component part of the device in a back garden of one of the properties. For safety reasons, the item cannot be moved, so specialist army bomb disposal officers will need to carry out a small controlled explosion at the scene to make the item safe," a police spokesman said on Saturday.

Back on Friday, the police and residents were surprised to see no one was killed or seriously injured in the attack that smashed almost all windows of the mosque.
