Bahrain opposition - the regime is limiting freedom of expression

21 Jul 2013 06:04

Islam Times - As violence is once again spiraling out of control in Bahrain, the Opposition has made abundantly clear that the end to violence in Bahrain can only be achieved by allowing freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and demonstration, for all Bahrainis as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international law, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and constitutional articles.

This is in addition to the pledges Bahrain has already made to the international community in this regard.

Ever since the regime has decided to restrict its people's rights by imposing a ban on public gathering, thus hampering people's right to peacefully gather and express themselves - an unalienable human right - violence has returned to the streets.

The Opposition is now arguing that the ban is not only illegal but anti-constitutional and should therefore be overturned.

Bahrain government has been trying to prevent an upcoming demonstration, scheduled August 14, on the anniversary of the kingdom's independence.

The Opposition called on the regime to end its cycle of violence, repression and oppression on citizens.

"Using the law to enforce tyranny and crackdown on peaceful protesters is not tolerable."
