Al-Wefaq rejects allegations of dwindling popularity in Bahrain

Islam Times - Al-Wefaq, Bahrain's main opposition party, denied recent allegations stipulating that it is losing popular support, dismissing such reports as fallacious and unfounded.


The Shia-led faction has been the main locomotive of Bahrain's revolutionary movement and has supported calls for peaceful change ever since 2011, when Bahrainis sought to implement political and social reforms in the kingdom.
 
A high ranking member of al-Wefaq told Fars news agency in an interview, "reports of unpopularity are untrue."

The British Council for studies and research of the Middle East wrote in a report that al-Wefaq which won nearly half the seats in the Bahraini parliament in 2010 witnessed a marked decline in popular support .
