Al-Wefaq Secretary General condemns new repressive laws

5 Aug 2013 07:24

Islam Times - The Secretary-General of Al Wefaq - main party of the opposition on Bahrain -, Sheikh Ali Salman denounced he government's recent decision to legalize repression by setting in place a series of laws which aim to restraint people's right to protest and express their opinion freely.

Bahrain passed a new law in essence preventing all people to demonstrate under cover of national security.

This come amid calls from activists to organize a huge demonstration on August 14.
Sheikh Salman argues that since such laws are by definition in contradiction with human rights and international standards they should be rendered void.

Several human rights organizations -- Human Rights International and Amnesty International -- have already slammed Bahrain government for putting such restraints on its citizens and by criminalizing one's right to free expression.
