UK govt. urged to press US to halt arms supply to Egypt
“The time has now come for the UK government to urge the US administration to suspend its $1.3bn military aid to Egypt," Douglas Alexander said.

He also said that the crackdown on the supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi has turned into a "horrific bloodshed", which cost hundreds of lives.

Alexander’s comments come after US President Barack Obama announced the cancelation of US-Egypt military exercises following the latest killings in the country.

However, he made no reference to suspension of Washington’s annual military aid to Cairo.

Egypt’s Health Ministry announced that 638 people have been killed in Wednesday’s clashes between security forces and Morsi supporters.

Tension has intensified in Egypt since July 3, when the Egyptian army removed Morsi from office. The army also suspended the constitution and dissolved the parliament.
