Death toll from Cairo violence hits 638: Health Ministry
In a Thursday statement, the ministry also said that 288 of the dead were killed during clashes in Cairo’s Nasr City.

This came after Egyptian security forces moved in to clear out thousands of supporters of the ousted president from two camps -- one near the Rabaah al-Adawiya Mosque in Cairo’s Nasr City and a another one in Nahda Square in Giza.

Reports say that 45 security personnel, including a number of generals and colonels, were among the dead.

Meanwhile, members of the Muslim Brotherhood staged fresh rallies in the cities of Alexandria and Assiut to protest the violent breakup of their sit-ins in the capital.

The demonstrators expressed their outrage at the military’s deadly crackdown on the supporters of Morsi.

Brotherhood supporters also stormed the Giza governorate headquarters in Cairo.

The group has called for protests after Friday prayers in response to the bloody crackdown.

Egypt's Tamarod opposition movement or anti-Morsi camp has also called for rival rallies on Friday.

Tension has intensified in Egypt since July 3, when the Egyptian army removed Morsi from office, declared the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, interim president, suspended the constitution and dissolved the parliament.
