Anti-coup protesters dwindling a media lie, says Egypt alliance

27 Aug 2013 11:50

Islam Times - Egypt’s Anti-Coup National Alliance says media outlets are lying when they say the number of protesters in anti-coup demonstrations is declining.

The alliance said on Monday that protesters have increased in number, diversity, and momentum across the country.

The alliance pointed out that they have been monitoring the protests and the number of demonstrators.

They insist that more people attended the Martyrs’ Friday demonstrations than the Friday of Anger demonstrations. Supporters of the ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi held the nationwide demonstrations to demand his reinstatement to office.

Egypt has been rocked by a fresh wave of political chaos after the military overthrew Morsi on July 3.

The government of army-appointed interim President Adly Mansour has launched a fierce crackdown on Morsi supporters and arrested more than 2,000 Brotherhood members, including the party’s leader, Mohamed Badie, who was detained on August 20.

Nearly 1,000 people were killed in a week of violence between Morsi fans and security forces after police dispersed their protest camps in a deadly operation on August 14.

The massacre sparked international condemnation and prompted world bodies to call for an independent investigation into the violence.
