Israeli forces injure several Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Mosque

25 Sep 2013 09:26

Islam Times - Israeli regime forces have injured several Palestinian worshippers in an attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Israeli soldiers fired tear gas at the worshippers and beat the Palestinians inside the compound with batons on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the al-Aqsa Mosque and shouted slogans against the regime in Tel Aviv and condemned Israeli police’s brutality against the Palestinians.

Israeli soldiers responded by firing tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, injuring a number of them, including a 17-year-old girl.

On September 18, Israeli forces stormed the mosque compound, firing teargas at Palestinian worshippers. Clashes reportedly broke out between the Israeli troops and the Palestinians after they attempted to prevent the worshippers, including women and children, from entering the mosque.

On September 19, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, condemned the assault, saying the body is determined to raise the issue of the Israeli aggressions on the al-Aqsa Mosque at the United Nations General Assembly.

The al-Aqsa compound, which lies in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds, is a flashpoint. The compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, is the holiest site in Judaism. It is Islam’s third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
