200 militants surrender to Syria army in Damascus
According to an unnamed military source, the militants surrendered to the Syrian army in the city’s Barzeh neighborhood, the official SANA news agency reported on Sunday.

The militants also handed over their weapons to the army units, the source added.

The army dismantled dozens of improvised explosive devices planted by the militants in the streets and in buildings, the source stated.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies - namely Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey - are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

On January 2, 2014, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said his country would emerge “victorious” and “more powerful” from the foreign-sponsored crisis.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the foreign-backed militancy.

The UN also says more than four million other Syrians will be forced out of their homes in 2014 by the escalating conflict in the country.
