More Than 1,000 Killed during Infighting between Militants in Syria

17 Jan 2014 08:59

Islam Times - At least 1,069 people, mostly fighters, have been killed in two weeks of battles between Syrian opposition groups and takfiri brigades, the Syrian UK-based Observatory for Human Rights reported Thursday.

Not all of those dead were identified, AFP reported.

Among them were 608 takfiris and opposition militiamen, 312 jihadists from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and around 130 civilians, the group said.

Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors, mainly the Saudi Arabia and Turkey, of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.

Today hundreds of armed groups, including terrorist takfiri brigades affiliated with Al-Qaeda, are battling both the national army and each other, complicating any efforts to reach a political settlement.
