GCC equipment found in ISIL hideouts: Iraq TV

15 Jun 2014 13:00

Islam Times - Iraqi forces have found equipment made by Arab countries of the Persian Gulf in Takfiri militants’ hideouts, Iraqi state TV says.

The country’s security forces found the equipment in hideouts belonging to the al-Qaeda splinter Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Salah al-Din province, reports said on Saturday.

The equipment belonged to the Peninsula Shield Force, the military side of the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC), which consists of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has blamed Saudi Arabia and Qatar for the security crisis and growing terrorism in his country, denouncing the Al Saud regime as a major supporter of global terrorism.

On June 10, the ISIL militants took control of Nineveh province, including its provincial capital Mosul, in a lightning advance, which followed the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced out of their homes since the time.

Maliki has said that the country’s security forces would confront the terrorists, calling Mosul seizure a “conspiracy."

The ISIL militants have vowed to continue their raid towards the capital Baghdad.

Earlier in the day, Iraqi forces took control of number of towns in Salah al-Din and Diyala provinces.
