Hezbollah-army cooperation defeated Takfiris: Hezbollah official

17 Aug 2015 11:36

Islam Times - Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah says its coordination with the country's army has defeated terrorist groups like Daesh and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra front.

Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said in his address to a conference in Tehran on Sunday that thanks to cooperation between the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah forces, the Takfiri terrorists have suffered heavy blows inside Lebanon.

He further emphasized that the liberation of some towns and villages along the Lebanese-Syrian border has established a secure zone between the two countries.

Sheikh Qassem noted that there have been no car bomb attacks inside Lebanon since last year, saying it was due to the Lebanese forces' firm stance against Takfiri terrorists.

“The enemy intended to first topple the Syrian government and then follow up on American and Israeli plots [in the region] but failed to achieve their objectives,” he said.

The development comes amid reports of fresh advances throughout joint operations by Hezbollah forces and Syrian army against Takfiri terrorists in the Syrian town of Zabadani near the border with Lebanon.

Syria has been fighting against foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists since early 2011. The conflict has reportedly killed an estimated 240,000 people so far, including nearly 12,000 children.

The violence in Syria has sporadically spilled over into Lebanese territory, where Takfiri terrorists have every now and then conducted operations against the army.
