Trial of 41 alleged Takfiri terrorists begins in UAE

The Monday hearing at the state security court in the nation’s capital Abu Dhabi, however, was devoted to procedural measures such as the appointment of attorneys with the judge adjourning the trial to September 28, state news agency WAM reported.
 
The development came after earlier this month the UAE’s prosecutor general accused the alleged Daesh-linked operatives, who include both local and foreign-based elements, of planning attacks aimed at efforts to "seize power and establish a caliphate."
 
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants sought to establish a group "with a terrorist, Takfiri ideology."
 
The Saudi-based Wahhabi ideology is an extremely deviant interpretation of Islam, rejected by most Muslims worldwide (Shias as well as Sunnis), that promotes Takfirism, which regards Muslims that reject the deviant rulings as apostates who can be killed.
 
Daesh and other al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups, which have waged a massive foreign-backed terror campaign in Syria and Iraq, follow the deviant Takfiri ideology. However, it was not clear whether the 41 suspects stood accused of having ties with such groups.
 
This is while the prosecutor has reportedly alleged that the suspects had ties with "foreign terrorist organizations... to help them achieve their goal."
 
According to the report, the defendants are also accused of establishing cells in attempts to train members in handling weaponry and explosives in the bid to prepare for attacks in the oil-rich kingdom, which is widely believed to have actively supported the Takfiri terror groups seeking to overthrow the Syrian government since 2011.
 
UAE officials reported the arrests on August 2 and the kingdom’s prosecutors quickly leveled the accusations against the suspects and said they would face trial. The detainees could face the death penalty if found guilty by the court.
