Bulgarians stage protest against Turkish premier’s visit to Sofia

16 Dec 2015 09:29

Islam Times - People have taken to the streets of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, to protest against Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s visit to the country.

Carrying banners reading “Davutoglu, out of Bulgaria!” and “Turkish aggression,” the protesters slammed Ankara’s actions against Syrians on Tuesday.

The demonstrators accused the Turkish government of supporting terrorist groups in Syria, demanding that Davutoglu leave Sofia immediately.

It was the second rally against Davutoglu's visit to Bulgaria both of which took place on Tuesday.

The Turkish premier arrived in Sofia on Tuesday on a day-long working visit to discuss issues of bilateral interest with Bulgarian leaders.

Turkey has time and again been blamed for being one of the main supporters of the terrorist groups operating in Syria, with reports saying that Ankara actively trains and arms the Takfiri militants there and facilitates their safe passage into the Arab country.

Syria has been wrestling with foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The crisis has so far claimed the lives of over 250,000 people and displaced nearly half of the country’s population within or beyond its borders.
