"We are not responding to Trump but everyone who understands the humiliation this degrading language inflicts on all women should,” Clinton's communications director Jennifer Palmieri tweeted on Tuesday.

Trump has been under fire since Monday for making disparaging remarks about Clinton, including that he thought that her use of a bathroom break during the most recent Democratic debate was "disgusting" and that she "got [expletive]" during the 2008 presidential election, when she lost to President Barack Obama.

"I know where she went, it's disgusting, I don't want to talk about it,” Trump said during a campaign event Monday night in Grand Rapids, Michigan. “No, it's too disgusting. Don't say it, it's disgusting, let's not talk, we want to be very, very straight up. But I thought that, wasn't that a weird deal.”

In a tweet Tuesday night, Trump called the media "dishonest" for its characterization of his remarks and said that the term he used was "not vulgar."

Since he joined the 2016 White House race in mid-June, Trump’s campaign has been marked by controversial statements, including disparaging remarks about Muslims and Mexican immigrants.

Last month, the billionaire real estate tycoon proposed banning Muslims from entering the US, drawing widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally.

Trump, whose paternal grandparents immigrated from Germany and his mother immigrated from Scotland, has also called for the deportation of all undocumented immigrants from the United States.
