Suspect in custody after shooting on Capitol Hill

The situation at the visitors center was contained on Monday and the shooter was said to have been shot and taken into custody.
 
Washington, DC, police said in a tweet that there was an "isolated incident at the US Capitol. There is no active threat to the public."
 
The man was later identified as Larry Dawson of Tennessee. He had previously disrupted a session of the Congress.
 
With the Congress on recess, reporters, the staff, and tourists were told not to leave their offices.
 
“Due to police activity, Capitol Police have issued a shelter in place for the Capitol complex. Please stay in your designated area,” the Senate sergeant at arms said in a tweet.
 
A female bystander, was injured by shrapnel during the incident and the suspect was taken to a hospital.
 
The White House was briefly shut down after the reports.
 
The Secret Service cleared tourists from an area around the White House but the situation went back to normal soon.
