Islam Times - At least four assailants have hacked a 75-year-old monk to death in southeastern Bangladesh amid a harrowing trend of such fatal attacks throughout the country.

The Saturday attack took place in the country’s Bandarban district. It saw the assailants storming the temple in the Naikkhangchhari village, about 338 kilometers (211 miles) southeast of the capital Dhaka, before slaying the victim, who had been leading a solitary existence there.

“Villagers found Bhante (monk) Maung Shue U Chak’s dead body in a pool of blood inside the Buddhist temple this morning. He was hacked to death,” said Jashim Uddin, deputy police chief of Bandarban.

Police said they did not know the motive behind the killing and that no one had been arrested.

Late last month, unknown assailants hacked two people to death in the capital, two days after a university professor was murdered in a similar way in the country’s northwest.

Earlier in April, a 28-year-old law student fell victim to a hacking attack after he posted messages on Facebook criticizing religious extremism and Takfiris.

The attacks have been haunting the country for the past several months. They have claimed victims among prominent secular bloggers and activists as well its Muslim community.

The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group and al-Qaeda’s operatives have claimed a number of the killings.
