The UN high-ranking official made the remarks during a news briefing at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on Wednesday.

"If Donald Trump is elected on the basis of what he has said already - and unless that changes - I think it is without any doubt that he would be dangerous from an international point of view," Zeid said.

He further suggested that the human rights situation will be worse if Trump’s policies are pursued in the White House.

“Torture works,” Trump has said, vowing to reauthorize waterboarding, which was banned by along with other forms of torture, officially called enhanced interrogation techniques, upon taking office in January 2009.

Trump’s victory on November 8 could lead to “an increase… or the use of torture,” Zeid said.

Apart from an inclination for torture, Trump has also insulted Muslims, African Americans, Latinos, women and the disabled people along with others.

The top UN official noted that the New York billionaire’s “focus on vulnerable communities [is] in a way that suggests that they may be well deprived of their human rights.”
