'Libyan navy base bombarded'

Story Code : 60906
Islam Times reports from AFP:
They said the Bussetta base, some 10 kilometers (six miles) east of Tripoli, was hit at 1900 GMT.

Libya's state television said earlier on Monday that the capital Tripoli was under attack, loud explosions and anti-aircraft fire ripped across the night sky near the residence of Libyan ruler Muammer Gaddafi.

The attack on the navy base comes as the US-led Western coalition conducting a military operation over Libya has rejected a ceasefire declared by Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

The coalition accuses Tripoli of lying about the new ceasefire which was declared on Sunday night.

US President Barack Obama's national security aide Tom Donilon says the new ceasefire 'isn't true' or has been 'immediately violated.'

On Sunday, reports said that an airstrike had destroyed an administrative building of Gaddafi's residence in the southern Tripoli.
