Is the nightmare over?

5 Mar 2017 05:23

Islam Times - Despite Daesh’s so-called caliphate having ruled territory with a population of five or six million people, they are fast awaking from their dream and disparate groups will soon be fighting each other. Will the fall of Mosul mean the end of the caliphate?

Daesh is fighting street-to-street desperately trying to hold western Mosul, their last major stronghold in Iraq. The last road out of the city to the west was cut by Iraqi government forces that have also captured one of the remaining bridges over the Tigris River and theyhich they are planning to repair it using US-supplied pontoons.
Iraqi military units backed by some 50 US airstrikes a day are closing in to the buildings that previously housed the government headquarters in the center of the city.

Only advances and victories are announced, yet these reports are either premature or untrue. Undoubtedly the Iraqi security services are winning the struggle for Mosul, but it is not over yet. Shelling and airstrikes are causing heavy casualties among families sheltering in beneath their houses.
