Brown says I'm in Labour

"I will not waver, I will not walk away, I will get on with the job and I will finish the work," he said addressing a press conference in London on Friday.

"I believe in never walking away from people in difficult times. This is what I stand for. I have the determination to take this country through the most difficult of economic times and this is what I am doing."

The comments came after five cabinet ministers resigned voicing lack of confidence in his government.

The premier's Labour Party also put on a lackluster performance in the local elections mounting pressure on the premier to step down.

Those to leave were Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell, Defense Secretary John Hutton, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, Communities Secretary Hazel Blears, Europe Minister Caroline Flint and Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon.

The only call, among the minister, for the prime minister to step aside was made by Purnell who is considered to be of good chances to become the next Labour leader.

Though Finance Minister Alistair, Foreign Secretary David Miliband and Business Secretary Peter Mandelson's stay in their posts prevented the Brown administration from collapsing, analysts say the prime minister would have a difficult time taking the upheavals in his stride.
