GOP candidates to ‘win BIG’ in 2018, Trump says despite Alabama loss

24 Dec 2017 07:43

Islam Times - US President Donald Trump predicts a “big” victory for the Republican Party despite the recent defeat of his recommended contender in the Alabama special election.

“Good Republican candidates will win BIG,” he said in a tweet on Saturday.

Just recently, Roy Moore, who has been accused of sexually assaulting and pursuing several teenage girls, lost the vote to Democratic hopeful Doug Jones despite Trump’s endorsement.

“Remember, the Republicans are 5-0 in Congressional races this year," Trump tweeted, asserting that he had initially endorsed Senator Luther Strange ahead of the Alabama Senate primary runoff in September.

He also referred to Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie, whom he also endorsed, but lost the race to Democrat Ralph Northam in November.

"Virginia candidate was not a ‘Trumper,’ and he lost,” the commander in chief claimed.

After the Virginia loss, Trump blamed the GOP, saying he “did not embrace me or what I stand for.”

The president is reportedly planning to aggressively campaign for Republican candidates across the country ahead of the 2018 midterms.

Trump rushed to back Moore after deleting tweets showing his previous support for Strange.

He took the measure despite accusations of sexual assault against Moore.
