Trump aide Hope Hicks to leave White House after telling 'white lies'

The communications director who is Trump's longest-serving aide and one of his most trusted confidante announced her resignation on Wednesday.
 
Hicks said she would quit a day after she testified before a Congressional intelligence committee about an ongoing probe into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election that yielded President Trump.
 
The American public relations consultant reportedly told lawmakers she had already told "white lies" for Trump, but never over the Russia probe.
 
"There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump," said the 29-year-old in a statement on her resignation.
 
The announcement came as the Trump administration is already suffering from a string of departures from the embattled White House.
 
The president, meanwhile, paid tribute to the former model and PR operative, who was named communications director last September.
 
"I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood," Trump said of her "outstanding" contribution.
 
"I am sure we will work together again in the future."
 
The White House chief of staff, General John Kelly, also thanked Hicks, asserting that she has "served her country with great distinction."
 
"To say that she will be missed, is an understatement," Kelly said.
