“It is no longer a secret that the resistance is ‘wanted’ at the various levels, even via the parliamentary elections,” Speaker Berri told a large popular delegation of the southern town of Sarafand, comprising of mayoral and municipal council members and families’ representatives.

Berri underlined before the delegation that Amal Movement-Hezbollah alliance is not only “a need and a necessity” but has become a fate and destiny.

Berri branded such alliance as rigid as the “rocks of the South” and all attempts to tamper with its solidness shall go in vain.

The Speaker also called for high turnout of voters on May 6 elections, turning it into a real referendum day.

The remarks by Berri came on the same day that the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar posted leaked cables sent by the Emirati embassy in Lebanon to the country’s (UAE) Foreign Ministry, reporting the conditions of the anti-Hezbollah Shia candidates.

One of the secret cables was sent by the consul Hamdan Sayyed Al-Hashemi at the request of UAE Assistant FM, informing him about those candidates whose electoral campaigns need funding.

Last month the leader of Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah said United States and Saudi Arabia are meddling in Lebanon’s upcoming parliamentary elections. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah added that the two countries are seeking to weaken the resistance movement.
