"They can lie all they want to," California Democratic Representative Maxine Waters told MSNBC on Sunday. "It’s all going to come out in the wash."

CNN released the audio tape Tuesday, offering the first public a glimpse at the confidential discussions about how to hush former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

McDougal says she had an affair with Trump in 2006, shortly after the birth of his youngest son.

"I am convinced that in the final analysis they are not going to be able to be successful with the kind of lying that they are doing," Waters said. "It is obvious. I hope that the other tapes that are in possession of Mr. Cohen will be revealed and we’ll find out more about this president, his schemes, his lying, his payoffs."

The president’s current personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, is meanwhile appearing on US media to defend his client.

“Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong, he didn’t commit a crime of any kind,” he said during one interview.

Giuliani further concluded that the tape, as well as another one about silencing adult-film star Stormy Daniels, indicates that the so-called Russia probe is going nowhere.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is suing to void a nondisclosure agreement brokered by Cohen that prohibits her from speaking publicly about the alleged affair.

Trump has been under pressure over growing allegations of sexual misconduct as well of subject of an investigation into alleged collusion with Russia in the wake of the 2016 presidential election.

Russia has denied meddling in the election as well as being in possession of any damaging information on the US president.
