Trump renews attack on Sessions alleging he is 'scared stiff, missing in action'

12 Aug 2018 07:02

Islam Times - US President Donald Trump has stepped up his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, accusing his top judicial official of being "scared stiff" and "missing in Action" in defending him amid special counsel Robert Muller's persisting probe of likely ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia.

The Saturday development came in a Twitter post in which Trump also censured Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence officer at the center of the Trump dossier scandal, as well as the Department of Justice (DOJ), slamming yet again Mueller's investigation as a "witch hunt."

"The big story that the Fake News Media refuses to report is lowlife Christopher Steele’s many meetings with Deputy A.G. Bruce Ohr and his beautiful wife, Nelly. It was Fusion GPS that hired Steele to write the phony & discredited Dossier, paid for by Crooked Hillary & the DNC," Trump wrote in the tweet message.

"Do you believe Nelly worked for Fusion and her husband STILL WORKS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF 'JUSTICE.' I have never seen anything so Rigged in my life. Our A.G. is scared stiff and Missing in Action. It is all starting to be revealed - not pretty. IG Report soon? Witch Hunt!" he further added.

Trump’s latest attack on his attorney general for the Russia probe came shortly after he declared earler this month that Sessions should halt the investigation “right now.”

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further," Trump tweeted on August 1.

The US president is also known to maintain a grudge against his attorney general for recusing himself in the Russia probe.

“The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax continues, all because Jeff Sessions didn’t tell me he was going to recuse himself...I would have quickly picked someone else. So much time and money wasted, so many lives ruined...and Sessions knew better than most that there was No Collusion!” Trump tweeted back in June.

Meanwhile, the Washington-based The Hill news outlet further reported Saturday that Trump’s latest criticism of Sessions “was likely prompted by murmurings that the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte, is readying subpoenas for people connected to the controversial Steele dossier.”

Goodlatte is preparing subpoenas for DOJ official Bruce Ohr, his wife, Nellie Ohr, and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, according to the report, citing its sources.

Bruce Ohr, the report added, is further facing scrutiny from Republicans for his contacts with Simpson and Steele during the presidential campaign, the news of which impelled Trump allies to demand a special counsel investigation into the DOJ and FBI in December.

Simpson then hired Steele to assist with the preparation of the dossier that made a series of scandalous allegations regarding Trump's connections with the Russians.
